In this class, students will gain a strong foundation on throwing and hand building ceramic vessels, while exploring techniques designed to personalize their basic pottery forms into unique works of art. Wheel throwing will focus on throwing mechanics, creating forms like vases, bowls, mugs, cylinders, and plates; Hand-building will focus on coil and slab construction to establish form. Secondary alteration will be strongly encouraged through various surface technique demonstrations like underglaze application, carving, and faceting. All levels are welcome to attend.


Supplies: Basic wheel throwing kit: throwing sponge, trimming tools, wooden ribs, needle tool, wire cutter, plastic garbage bags, looped carving tools. Optional: plastic throwing/finishing ribs, 1-2 gallon bucket, apron, hand towel, large sponge (cleaning), various tools for texture.
