This course will focus on building a solid foundation in wheel throwing skill, while emphasizing correct usage of basic techniques. More specifically, students will learn how to correctly throw the following forms: cylinder, bowl, and bottle. Once the students can throw these three basic forms, they will use them as building blocks for concept, form, or function.
Students will be taught in a collaborative learning atmosphere, where all questions and comments are welcome. The class objectives will be challenging for students who have never used the wheel; however, the class is geared toward beginners.
Supplies: Basic wheel throwing kit: throwing sponge, trimming tools, wooden ribs, needle tool, wire cutter. 1-2 gallon bucket, plastic garbage bags. Optional: plastic throwing/finishing ribs, apron, hand towel, large sponge (cleaning), various tools for texture.
