Uncommon Threads information for Artists

Uncommon Threads is now in its 33rd year.  Last year saw over 450 attendees come through the doors.  This is a one-day wearable art experience; with a runway show, boutique, and luncheon.

The event is held at Q Center in St. Charles, Illinois.  Q Center is the Midwest's largest full-service, IACC-certified conference venue with over 150,000 square feet set on 95 acres. Our event on the day includes a runway which is over 100ft for the models to showcase the runway artists work.

Runway Artists

For runway artists, it is the opportunity to present a collection of 3-5 garments on the runway with the option to submit additional garments and accessories for sale in the Boutique area.  All runway items must be for sale and can be purchased after the runway show.  The sale of runway items and additional garments/accessories will be handled by Fine Line.

The cover image used to promote this event is selected from the runway artists applications.  In order for the image to be considered for the cover image - used in all press including print advertising, mailed invitations and the program on the event day - it must be sharp, with a neutral background and of high-quality resolution.  Images should be at least 100kb but not larger than 5MB in order to be loaded into the application system.

Our models supply their own base garments, so you do not need to provide.  We embrace all sizes of models so your runway garments do not need to fit a specific size range.

The patrons who attend this event look for garments that will carry them through the autumn and winter seasons. We recommend you keep this in mind when selecting your garments.

Accepted artists will have to submit a brief artist statement of approximately 200 words and a description of the collection being shown on the runway. These will be requested once the jury process has been completed and accepted artists notified.

Runway artist awards

There are three awards in recognition of outstanding work:

Kavanagh Award, Best of Show, $250

Jurors’ Choice Award, Best Body of Work, $200

People’s Choice Award, $100

Boutique - Independent Artist Booth

For artists who wish to operate their own Booth, this is an opportunity to have your work for sale at an event where the patrons attending are expecting to purchase.  As this event comes weeks before the holiday season begins, many are looking for a unique item or items to wear at upcoming holiday functions and events; or gifts for the holiday season.

The images you submit with your application are used to publicize this event, bear this in mind when submitting.   Images should be at least 100kb but not larger than 5MB in order to be loaded into the application system.

You will set up the morning of the event and take down the same day. All sales during the day will be handled by Fine Line, leaving you the opportunity to talk to patrons about your pieces,

Boutique - Fine Line Managed Booth

If you are a accessories artist, you can apply and submit up to 30 items.  This booth is set up and managed by Fine Line so you do not need to attend. All items must be priced below $250.00.
