This course offers the student an opportunity to create functional (bowls, cups, plates, etc) and non-functional ceramic artwork through the techniques of pinching, slab building, coiling and molding plus creating forms on the potter's wheel. Emphasis will be placed on sculptural aesthetic, including functional pieces, to create clay work that is personal to the maker. A variety of finishing techniques will be employed, including slipwork, resists and carving. Learn about clay and yourself!


Supplies: Basic tool kit (can be found in most craft/hobby store), sponge, drycleaning plastic or other thin wrap, old sheet scrap, stamps or other textural materials, metal ribs (one with teeth is helpful). One bag of clay will be supplied with class. Larger projects may involve purchase of additional clay. Ideas! Look at Pinterest or online for ideas that peak your interest!
