Learn the Secrets of Pastel Painting! Select your best soft pastels or oil pastels and enjoy quality time creating pastel paintings with instructor led expertise. Pastel artist, Carol Zack, will guide you in learning a process and techniques that include: an underpainting, painting with values, creating edges, mixing color and layering the pastel to develop surface texture. Instructor led critiques and best practices for presentation are emphasized. A great class for beginners to advanced painters. Instructor provides lots of one-on-one coaching. A very user-friendly medium to try.


Supplies: The Fine Line has one oil pastel brand available in the Fine Line Store. Mungyo Gallery Soft Oil Pastels, Item #V04180 set of 48 $41.69 and Weber's Resngel Quick Drying Extender Gel, Blick Item # 20093-0489  $10.24 are available for sale to students. We order sets of 48 sticks from Jerry's Artarama.com along with the Quick Drying Extender Gel. Other Oil Pastel Brands can be ordered by student as additional colors to add to their collection: Sennelier, Holbein. Oil Pastel Papers: Arches Cover, Rives BFK, Lenox,Stonehenge, Mi Tientes papers. Soft Pastels are easier to find in the local Dick Blick Stores, so if a student wishes to work in soft pastel, they should shop at Dick Blick or choose an online store to get the pastels they need. Soft Pastel Brands: Sennelier, Unison, Schmiekie and Terry Ludwick. Soft pastels are preferred over hard pastels. Hard pastels such as Rembrandt can also be used with sanded papers. Soft Pastel Papers: Assorted brands of Sanded papers and/or Pastel Mat by Clarefontaine are recommended along with some mineral spirits like Gamosol.
