"TR (Transformational Reconstruction) is a method of pattern design that allows creative shaping and effects to be built into the cut of the garment as the pattern is developed... fabric (is treated) as if it was another medium, as substance that flows around the body or freezes parts in fantastical shapes, all the while keeping the structure of the basic garment functional for wearing." (Shingo Sato) Students will learn about this unique method of pattern development and will create an original garment design, a working pattern and a fabric sample.


Supplies: Students must have previous experience working with patterns and sewing. 18"x2" clear ruler, french curve, tape measure, mechanical pencils (.7mm), erasure, tracing wheel, wax or transfer tracing paper, 1" wide matt finish tape, straight pins, paper and fabric scissors, red pencil, 5 yd. 54" wide medium weight muslin, hand sewing (basting) needles, thread, thick black sharpie, sewing machine *Instructor will have the following items available for class use but if the student has these items they are encouraged to bring them to class: hip curve ruler, large french curve, notcher, awl
