This course explores a variety of painting techniques to help expand your artistic style through abstract concepts. Over the period of this class, the instructor will demonstrate and guide you through abstract painting techniques. This course includes various investigations on abstract painters such as Joan Mitchell, Willem de Kooning, and Georgia O’Keeffe. We will work with acrylic paint on canvas. This class will challenge your understanding of abstract painting by exploring color through mark making, color mixing and layering to complete your own abstract series.


Supplies:
20 in Artist loft brand Canvas packs (2pc) 16 in x 20 in Academic Cotton Stretched Blick Canvas -purchase two of these if you go with the 2-pc set.

Acrylic Paint: Recommended: Basics Acrylic Paint Set (8pc) Liquitex brand, Academy Blick Artists' Acrylic Set - Basic Set, Set of 6 Winsor & Newton Professional Acrylics - Starter Set of 12 Colors, 20 ml tubes Brushes: (1 pack)

Acrylic brush set Recommended: Acrylic brushes set (10 pc), Artist loft brand Blick studio bristle brushes set, Princeton Aspen Series 6500, Blick Academic White Synthetic brushes (You can also purchase separate brushes). Make sure there are a variety of flat, angular flat, and round brushes. If you are unsure of your brush choices, we can go over them on the first day!

Canvas: (4-5 pcs) 16 in x 20 in canvas Recommended: Canvas value packs (5pc) 16 in x 20 

Other materials: (1) sketch book (9 in x 12 in) Strathmore (fine tooth surface) or Canson brand (2+), Metal or Plastic Palette Knives (1), Plastic paint palette or glass tabletop palette (medium size or large), Drawing pencils for sketch book (any brand), (1) Pink eraser,  Paint apron (if you want to wear one)
