In this class, you will make a knife with a decorative exotic wood or antler handle. We will forge weld patterned Damascus blades as well as study traditional Japanese blade forging/ heat treatment. Learn the basic tools and techniques used in bladesmithing and handle work. We will explore different types of processes used to produce functional knives. There will be many different kinds of exotic woods and other materials available for purchase like brass, copper and nickel silver.
Prerequisites: Prerequisites: Basic Iron forging 1 and 2 or instructors consent. This class requires good hand, arm and shoulder strength. You will be standing for long periods so good leg mobility is required. Bring to class: Safety Glasses, All leather gloves, leather shoes or work boots, cotton, shirt and jeans, (no synthetics). Optional leather apron.

Supplies: Bring to class a pair of leather work gloves, leather apron (if you have one), safety glasses are a must, comfortable leather work-shoes or boots (no sandals), cotton jeans or long pants (No shorts, sweats, cuffed pants, nylon/polyester anything), note taking materials, water bottle and bag lunch. You will be getting dirty, so dress appropriately. All other supplies and materials will be provided.
