Learn how to wash and scour sheep’s wool! Day one covers all the basics to get started including how to properly handle, evaluate, and prepare raw fleeces. Students will learn a variety of ways to organize fleece with varying fineness for effective scouring. After viewing two scouring methods, students will spend the remaining time processing and washing their own fleece using one of the methods shown. Day two also covers drying methods and storage options and next steps!
Supplies: Bring your own dirty sheep’s wool. Plan to scour 1-2 lbs of fleece (more if time allows). Bring a spare trash bag for skirtings. Also, bring a large enough container to transport wet goods, plastic or rubber gloves, plastic bucket for soaking your goods. Optional: A notebook, writing utensil. Come prepared to get a bit messy. Dress accordingly (old clothes, closed toe shoes).
