Learn how to use handcards properly to create rolags and understand the difference between rolags made on hand cards and those made on blending boards. The instructor will advise you on how to pair/choose hand cards best for the fiber. Learn the differences between a true woolen yarn and a semi woolen yarn and how to properly characterize the yarns you spin. Next, you’ll go through the steps of sampling to find out which yarns you may want to continue creating down the line. Finally, we’ll navigate through some of the more common issues for spinning longdraw techniques and how to avoid them.


Supplies: Pen or pencil with eraser, Notebook, 1-2 ounces of protein fiber with staple between 2-4” (can be roving, top, or clean sheep’s fleece), due to potential allergy concerns please do not bring angora or alpaca for this session. Required equipment: Spinning wheel with an empty bobbin OR spindle to test rolags, Hand cards (recommend 72 tpi) Optional: Dowel rods for removal of rolags (2)
