Patternmaking is essential to learning how garments are created and put together, what is possible and what is not when it comes to designing a garment. This course is an introduction to flat patternmaking methods and concepts including drafting and fitting basic full scale blocks on a dress form (skirt, bodice and sleeve), slash and pivitol transfer methods for dart manipulation, and skirt variations. Students will apply learned skills using a half scale block set.
Supplies: 18"x2" clear ruler, 1/4 scale ruler, french curve, tape measure, mechanical pencils (.7mm), erasure, tracing wheel, wax or transfer tracing paper, 1" wide matt finish tape, straight pins, paper and fabric scissors, red pencil, 2 yd. 54" wide medium weight muslin, hand sewing (basting) needles
