Edouard Manet 1832-1883 Edouard Manet was one of the first 19th century artists to paint modern life, especially modern urban life. He was a pivotal figure from Realism into Impressionism. Influenced from the Japanese prints, Manet introduced a "flatness" into his paintings and he popularized "alla prima" painting. This session is especially timely because The Art Institute of Chicago is featuring Manet in an exhibit, "Manet and Modern Beauty," from May 26-Sept. 8, 2019.
