Sensing I is rooted in Fox Valley and Midwestern history. The sculpture base is an 1800's U.S. Wind Engine & Pump Company water pump designed to be driven by a windmill that was manufactured in Batavia. These devices developed the prairies. The counterbalance is a rock from the Fox River. While these elements are now utilized and appreciated in different ways, they remain touchstones for people who still appreciate the prairie.
