Imagine enjoying the beauty, spontaneity, and satisfaction of weaving fabric in which colors are not confined to warp and/or weft stripes. To accomplish this you will stretch out your protein (wool or silk) scarf warp and "paint" it with acid dyes in whatever colors appeal to you. Use a picture or natural object to help you determine a colorway if desired. You will have the day to “paint” a previously prepared warp. At home choose a compatible color for your weft and savor every changing nuance of color as the warp and weft interact in a spontaneous array of hues and values as you weave.
Supplies: 1. Pre-measured warp chains for a protein fiber (wool, alpaca, silk) - instructions on request 2. Mask (disposable or full face mask with filters if available) 3. Rubber gloves – the lightweight latex ones are easiest to paint with (5-10 pair) while the rubber ones are better for immersion dyeing (1 pair) 4. Variety of brushes – stencil with firm bristles, foam, Japanese stencil – in several sizes 5. 2 dozen clear plastic cups and muffin tin (can be disposable) they fit into 6. Box of plastic wrap and roll of paper towels 7. 5-10 white coffee filters 8. Ziploc bags in gallon sizes – 2-3
