Theo Moorman, a tapestry weaver, created a threading and treadling sequence that allowed her to inlay a design of any size or shape as an isolated motif on the surface of a ground cloth, or as a concept which moves from selvedge to selvedge to create a tapestry like image. In this 3 day workshop, the versatility and flexibility of this structure will appear as you complete 10 exercises on a pre-warped 4-S loom. You will be amazed by the flexibility and versatility of this simple 4 shaft structure which can be used for clothing, ecclesiastical pieces, wall hangings, rugs, and interiors.

Supplies: 1. Four-shaft table or floor loom pre-warped in Moorman threading (instructions available on line). Weave one inch to check threading and shed. Bring extra ground and tie-down warp threads and 4 empty photo film canisters or pill bottles to weight broken warp ends. 2. Enough ground warp fiber to be used as ground weft, boat shuttle, bobbins, small stick shuttles or embroidery floss or knitting bobbins. 3. Small amounts of inlay wefts of various fiber content, size, texture and color. Include fine threads (2400 yds per pound or finer) and 6-10 skeins embroidery floss. 4. Notebook and pencil. Four colored markers. 5. MORE ON MOORMAN: Theo Moorman Inlay Adapted to Clothing by Heather Winslow (available from Heather, 309 Snow St, Sugar Grove, IL 60554 – email drwhlw@aol.com) - (optional) 6.
